Description
Bougainvillea in my wife's garden, photographed this morning. I found bougainvilleas to be not so easy to photograph! Getting a good composition was quite challenging. I spent over an hour and this is what I came up with.
Bougainvillea is a genus of thorny ornamental vines, bushes, and trees with flower-like spring leaves near its flowers. The vine grows from 1-12 meters (3-40 feet) tall, scrambling over other plants with their spiky thorns. The thorns are tipped with a black, waxy substance. The leaves are alternate, simple ovate-acuminate, 4-13 cm long and 2-6 cm broad. The actual flower of the plant is small and generally white, but each cluster of three flowers is surrounded by three or six bracts with the the bright colors magenta (as in this photo), purple, red, orange, white, or yellow.
