Description
Statue of Buddha with textures. Digital art based on a photo by Ram Vasudev. Textured background added to give it a vintage look.
Gautama Buddha, or just Buddha, was a sage back in 563 BCE to 483 BCE in the Himalayan foothills in Northeast India. He was born in a royal family, but became disillusioned with palace life and wanted to see the outside world. When he ventured outside the palace, he saw human suffering, sickness, old age and death. This changed his life forever. He became a wandering monk, and eventually figured out the cause of suffering and how to tackle it. After his enlightenment, he went to the holy city of Benares (now Varanasi) and shared his new understanding with holy men, who became his disciples. This marked the beginning of Buddhism. His disciples traveled far and wide spreading his teachings. Today, Buddhism is practiced far away from its place of origination, such as Tibet, Burma (Mynamar), Sri Lanka, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Mongolia, Korea, Japan, Taiwan and China.
