Description
A wall mural in East LA, a suburb of Los Angeles, reflecting the history of Los Angeles. At the end of the Mexican-American War in 1848, Los Angeles and the rest of California were purchased as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and became part of the United States. Much of the Spanish/Mexican culture still exists in LA, especially Catholicism.
The Spanish/catholic roots of the community can be seen in wall murals in East LA, as in this image. The mural depicts Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe - Our Lady of Guadalupe, also known as Virgin of Guadalupe, or Blessed Virgin Mary. It is a replica of the image enshrined in Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City, the most visited Catholic pilgrimage site in the world.
