Full Moon rising at blue hour over the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles. This is a view from a canyon west of the Observatory. The nearly full moon was at an azimuth of 96.9 degrees and an altitude 12.4 degrees when I captured this picture.
The Griffith Observatory is a Los Angeles icon, a national leader in public astronomy, a beloved civic gathering place, and one of southern California's most popular attractions. It is a popular tourist attraction with an extensive array of space, astronomy and science-related displays. A monthly free public star party is held at the Observatory, with assistance of volunteers from the Los Angeles Astronomical Society, Los Angeles Sidewalk Astronomers and the Planetary Society.
