Description
This is a digitally enhanced version of a conceptual image of a supermassive black hole called Markarian 335, based on observations by NASA's NuSTAR telescope (NuSTAR= Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array). The original NASA image is in public domain. The regions around black hole shine brightly at X-ray wavelengths, which originates from a little-understood structure called the corona at the base of a jet, depicted here in cyan color.
A black hole is a region of space-time from which gravity prevents anything, including light, from escaping. Black holes of stellar mass are expected to form when very massive stars collapse at the end of their life cycle. After a black hole has formed it can continue to grow by absorbing mass from its surroundings. By absorbing other stars and merging with other black holes, supermassive black holes made up of millions of solar masses may form. Supermassive black holes are thought to exist in the centers of most galaxies.
I have modified the original raw public domain NASA image considerably to enhance the colors, beauty, balance and luminosity, in order to provide you a breathtaking, high quality, fine art print through this website. Just imagine a large print of this space art on a wall in your home, office or business!
