Description
This is a black & white version of my photo "Buddha Statue - Buddhist Columbarium..." - showing the statue of Buddha in a peaceful meditative pose, Buddhist Columbarium, Rose Hills Memorial Park & Mortuary, Whittier, California.
Peace, tranquility, Buddha, Statue, harmony, zen, buddhism, awareness, enlightenment, spirit
Rose Hills Memorial Park is the largest cemetery in the United States and has several Chapels, Mausoleums and a Buddhist Columbarium. The pagoda-style Buddhist Columbarium, where this statue is located, was built in 1999, is located on 2.5 acres at the highest elevation of Rose Hills, and is the largest Buddhist pagoda in the United States. Due to the large Asian population in Los Angeles County, Rose Hills provides services and burial locations for adherents of Feng Shui, a Chinese philosophical system of harmonizing everyone with the surrounding environment. It is first of its kind in North America and is enriched with traditional cultures of Taiwan and China.
I was attracted to this composition by the peaceful Buddha statue in a meditative pose under the gorgeous tree and the meandering pathway leading to the stupas in the background (on the left). Stupas are Buddhist commemorative monuments housing sacred remains/ashes. Walking by the stupas was an unforgettable experience because there was a constant chanting gently playing in the background on a continuous loop. It was surreal and meditative.
