Description
This is the entrance to the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden. The arboretum occupies 127 acres and is nestled in the hills of the San Gabriel Mountains. Occupying the heart of the historic Rancho Santa Anita, it is a unique botanical garden and historical site jointly operated by the Los Angeles Arboretum Foundation and the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation and is located in the city of Arcadia. Home to plant collections from all over the world, including many rare and endangered species, the Arboretum also houses outdoor historical landmarks representative of the major phases of California history. It includes Native American, Rancho Period, and late 19th century treasures.
The arboretum's plants are grouped by geography with gardens for South American, Mediterranean, South African, Australian and Asiatic-North American plants. Other displays include the Aquatic Garden, Meadowbrook, Demonstration Home Gardens, Garden for All Seasons, Prehistoric and Jungle Garden, Native Oaks, Herb Garden, the palm and Bamboo collection, and a lovely greenhouse.
Dozens of movies and televisions programs have had scenes filmed at the arboretum beginning in 1936, including portions of two Jurassic Park and Objective Burma. Some of the Tarzan adventure movies were partially shot here. It was also the scenes for Paradise Island in The New Original Wonder Woman. The Queen Anne Cottage at the Arboretum was used in the opening credits of the TV show Fantasy Island. The cottage was also seen in an episode of Murder, She Wrote and Roots: The Next Generation. In 2013, Katy Perry filmed her music video for "Roar" at the arboretum. (information excerpted from Wikipedia and arboretum.org)
