Description
Los Angeles City Hall, as viewed from the Music Center. Black & white (monochrome). The fountain in the foreground is in Grand Park, a 12 acres park located in the civic center.
The LA City Hall was completed in 1928, and is located in the Civic Center district of downtown Los Angeles. Designed by John Parkinson, John Austin and Albert Martin, it is the tallest base-isolated structure in the world, having undergone a seismic retrofit from 1998 to 2001 so that the building will sustain minimal damage and remain functional after a magnitude 8.2 earthquake. An observation level is open to the public on the 27th floor. The Mayor has an office on the third floor and every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, the City Council meets in its chambers.
The building is part of popular culture, having been featured in popular movies and television shows such as Adventures of Superman, Alias, Dragnet, Perry Mason, LA Confidential, Tower of Terror, Adam-12, War of the Worlds, V, The Bad News Bear, Atlas Shrugged, Torchwood: Miracle Day, The Employer, and Gangster Squad.
