Wildflowers under a cottonwood tree, in the Cottonwood Canyon at Joshua Tree National Park, California. Early spring, late evening.
The wildflowers are Tansy Phacelia (blue) and Desert Dandelion (yellow) in the shade of the cottonwood tree, contrasting nicely with the greenery and the red Canyon wall in the background illuminated by gentle late evening sunlight.
While JTNP is well known for the namesake tree (Joshua Tree) and nice boulders, the show in early Spring belongs to beautiful wildflowers, such as the ones in this photo. I find the beauty of JTNP wildflowers to be quite subtle. You don’t have overly saturated colors of wildflowers such the California Poppy at other California desert locations. The colors of wildflowers at JTNP are gentle and somewhat understated, as in this picture.
